This piece draws inspiration from the sweltering Dallas summers I experienced growing up. Most homes in my neighborhood didn’t have central air or heat, so we relied on box fans and window units that barely cooled a single room. But as kids, staying indoors wasn’t an option so we’d brave the heat just to enjoy the freedom of summer. The only real relief came when the ice cream truck rolled through. The melting, cream like homes in the piece symbolizes the relentless heat, while the soft pink hue is a nod to my favorite childhood treat strawberry ice cream.
